From Chalkboards to Campaigns: How I Pivoted from Teaching to Doing

I always thought I was destined to be a teacher. I had the lesson plans, the color-coded pens, and an unshakable belief in the power of a well-placed semicolon. My passion? Helping others understand how to express themselves clearly, confidently, and (let’s be honest) with a little flair.

During my student teaching, I was ready—ready to ignite a love for writing in a room full of teenagers who, as it turns out, mostly wanted to ignite their phones. I found myself pouring more energy into trying to keep their attention than teaching sentence structure. One day, after giving a passionate lesson on the difference between “there,” “their,” and “they’re,” and receiving absolutely zero fanfare (except for one yawn and a TikTok mid-sentence), it hit me: Maybe I’m not meant to teach writing. Maybe I’m meant to actually do it.

So, I pivoted. I traded in my red pen for a keyboard and stepped into the world of communication. And let me tell you—it felt right. I realized I didn’t just love explaining communication; I loved crafting it. Storytelling. Strategy. Messaging that moves people. That’s where I found my rhythm.

Now, instead of grading essays, I’m helping organizations find their voice, shape their message, and connect with their audiences in ways that feel human, intentional, and powerful.

It turns out, I didn’t leave teaching behind entirely—I just changed classrooms.
